Balance Assessment and Rehabilitation

Feeling dizzy, woozy or even disorientated?
You might be suffering from symptom called Vertigo or a balance disorder. When balance is impaired, an individual has lots of difficulty to maintain an upright position. He may not even be able to walk in a straight line and some worst cases, not even able to stand. Some do suffer from falls, that leads to other complications. Some even experience nausea, vomiting, changes in heart rate and blood pressure and even anxiety.

Feeling helpless?
We at EarMed are fully trained in the area of Vestibular. With the help of the state of the art equipment by Interacoustics, we are able to perform the test fully. Upon history taking, a series of test like Vestibular Nystamography (VNG), Video Head Impulse Test (vHIT), Caloric Test, Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP) and a bedside assessment is conducted. Together with the MRI report that was prescribed by the ENT Surgeons, our report could confirm the actual diagnosis of the problem.

What’s next?
In the past, often time the symptoms are supressed by prescribed drugs but recent studies have shown that the best solution is to challenge the system, do a series of customized exercises to facilitate or promote compensation.

Upon the test completion, we at EarMed will customise a Vestibular Rehabilitation course for the giddy patients. The series of exercises are prescribed to patient based on the initial diagnosis, to correct the impaired affected reflexes thus promoting compensation. We have a specialized room that is used for this purpose alone. The room is equipped with all the necessary tools and equipment to conduct the rehabilitation sessions.
